Black-necked Grebe – 2012 winter

Podiceps nigricollis – GWYACH YDDFDDU – Scarce and irregular winter visitor. Not recorded between April and July.

This map was produced by the West Wales Biodiversity Information Centre using data collected between November and February for the BTO Atlas 2007-11, with additional data collected in 2011-12 winter to fill gaps in coverage.

Black-necked grebes occur sporadically in the county, with one or two records every couple of years or so. They are most likely on sheltered parts of the estuaries, or on freshwater bodies ranging in size from small irrigation ponds to Llys-y-fran reservoir.
